Miranda L. Abild, MSc/MPhil uses her international experience as an academic, educator, and counselor to offer help which is rich in insight and perspective. In your time together, you will discuss your values, goals, and experiences and explore well-paced and value-driven tools oriented toward making your life more in-line with what is important to you.

Depending on what you are most comfortable with, we can meet either in person or online (Zoom) to begin to address the challenges you might face with regard to your mood (depression, anxiety, lack of security, etc.), in your relationships, with your gender or sexual experience, around your career, or with regard to your experience of chronic pain or illness. Additionally, lets discuss what has come up for you through your somatic work (yoga, acupuncture, massage) to help you find a place for it all.

Sessions are focused on the information you choose to share and finding ways that empower you to move toward your goals, values or what is important to you. Sometimes this includes an examination of your history or past trauma’s, sometimes not. Sometimes this will include a review of your week, sometimes not. Therapy is as individual as the people involved. At the end of the hour, you will walk away with concrete steps designed to pull what you have learned in the therapeutic setting so that you continue to take steps in everyday in the direction you seek.

Appointment Cancellation and No-Show Policy

Appointment Cancellation and Modification Policy

At MĀ Wellness and Yoga, we strive to offer efficient services and honour the valuable time of our practitioners. To achieve this, we respectfully request a minimum notice of 24 hours for any cancellations or changes to your appointment. This policy ensures that we can continue to provide high-quality care to all our patients.

Cancellation Fees Explained:

  • Late Cancellation Fee: Should you need to cancel your appointment less than 24 hours before its scheduled time, we will charge a fee equal to 100% of the treatment cost to your card on file. This fee compensates for the time that had been reserved for you.

  • Emergency Situations: We understand that unforeseen circumstances can arise. In cases of emergency, please inform us immediately. For appointments cancelled due to emergencies within 24 hours of the scheduled time, a reduced fee of 50% of the treatment cost will be charged to your card on file.

We sincerely appreciate your understanding and cooperation with this policy. By adhering to these guidelines, you help us maintain a high standard of service for all our patients.

What are your qualifications?

As an academic, I have 2 Masters degrees in Psychology with a focus on human sexuality and gender. For more information, please see my CV at thewholesomeedge.com

As a counsellor, I have worked one-on-one with people in clinics, schools, and homeless shelters for over 10 years. This translates to over 2000 hours supporting others.

As a yoga instructor, I have completed a 200 hour yoga teacher training and have spent over 200 hours in 5 studios teaching yin, yin/yang, hatha, restorative, and vinyasa classes.

What is your availability?

8:30-2:45 pm on Wednesday, Saturday, and Sunday for In-Person sessions. Sessions will be held at MĀ Wellness and Yoga 539 Herald Street, Victoria, BC.

Online/phone sessions are also available. If the In-Person times do not work for you, please let me know. I feel confident we can arrange something.

How much is your rate?

I offer support on a sliding scale between $100-$130 for sessions at MĀ Wellness and Yoga and $70-$130 for online sessions. What this means is that you pay what you feel you have the means for. Accessibility is important to us. If you have any questions, please ask.

Do you accept Insurance?

I am not able to accept insurance at this time. This is how I am able to offer support at the rates I do.

What are your specialties?

I offer support for those experiencing depression, anxiety, and insecurity. With the world in a heightenes state of cautions, I see more and more people struggling to cope with the stressors of everyday life. Let’s talk.

Further, I have personally managed a chronic pain condition for over 7 years. As a result, I am formally trained to offer ongoing support around adjusting to and managing chronic illness. I offer a number of tools and insights for finding well-being and peace regardless of your condition, all with the goal of finding ways to improve your quality of life.

Finally, I am well versed in issues of gender and sexuality. This means that when it comes to LGBTQIA issues, issues around sexual function, and gender identity concerns, I can offer evidence-based insight and strategies for moving forward.

What is your approach? What does a typical visit with you look like?

I understand that each individual I meet is unique, dynamic, and worthy of respect. As such, my approach is the same.

Our time together will start with me asking questions that will help me understand what is important to you and what you are hoping to get out of our time together. My approach is proactive. This means that we will work toward clear goals, I will share tools with you to support you in your pursuit, and there will often be homework assigned between sessions. This will help us evaluate progression and efficacy of our time together.

Operating transparently and openly is very important to me. As such, I will consistently do my best to be direct with you to ensure we are always on the same page. If I don’t know something, I will tell you and do my best to find the answer.

Why are you offering support in a yoga studio?

There are a number of reasons that people come to yoga, acupuncture, massage, etc. Many of these reasons also benefit from speaking to someone. Additionally, in somatic (physical) practices, emotional stuff can come up. I am here to help you navigate that.

What is your policy between sessions??

It is important to me that you consistently feel supported. As such, in cases of heightened emotionality or emergency, I am available via text or email. If questions come up for you with homework or what you are facing, I am happy to receive an email. I will suggest a session if the issue best suits a face to face approach.

Are you able to treat complex trauma?

At the beginning of our time together, you will complete a brief and confidential online questionnaire. This will help me to determine whether I am the best possible support for you or whether another option may not be more suitable.
